In 2000, Armin Lange published in DJD a fragment of a scroll that had been purchased in the 1960s by a Finnish clergyman who insisted on remaining anonymous but who bequeathed it to the State of Israel (the fragment is now in the Shrine of the Book). This fragment had parts of six lines, but Lange was unable to identify them. After it was published, it was identified as coming from one of the copies of 4QInstruction, 4Q418 (DJD 36:492–93; Puech and Steudel 2000; Tigchelaar 2001, 125). The biblical scrolls include a fragment of Genesis; two Leviticus scrolls; three fragments of a Deuteronomy scroll; fifty fragments of an Ezekiel scroll; and two scrolls of Psalms.

Because of the straight cuts in some Cave 4 fragments de Vaux conjectured that a Roman legionary entered Cave 4a in the winter of AD 68, when the Tenth Legion occupied Qumran, and cut up the scrolls with his sword, cf.
