We thought our audience, would want to know more about these amazing performers, what dance means to them, and why they want to dance. Having come from editorial backgrounds, it seemed natural to both of us to include some text with the images. We’ve included some of our favorite quotes from the dancers in this book. Turning NYC Dance Project—the photographs and the concept—into a book was something that Ken and I had always thought about. As photographers, it’s a joy to be able to see a project in a book format, where there is a flow to the work and each image becomes a part of a larger piece We wanted to include all of the world’s most famous dancers, but realized that this would be impossible both to define and to achieve, so we’ve assembled a collection of our images here with the hope that anyone looking at them will experience some of the pleasure we had in creating them.
