You can then start playback to hear the effects of your choice. It makes sense to have a part of the track that contains the regions you are quantizing set to loop so that you can leave the track playing while you try different options. At this point you might well hear some regions (words in this case) that are sitting in the groove nicely, but others might be a little too early or late because you didn’t get the start point set quite correctly. If this is the case you can go back into the Arrange window and move the start point of the region a little earlier or later and then try reapplying the quantization to just that one region until it is right.

So if the opportunity comes along to do something like that, have a crack at it anyway. It will certainly push the limits of your creative and technical skills and you never know, you might just come up with something pretty special along the way. To summarize, changes in tempo are almost inevitable when dealing with remixes. There will be occasions when the tempo of the track you are remixing is exactly the same as the tempo you would like to use for the remix, but that rarely happens. Changes of a few beats per minute in tempo normally pass without really being noticed, but when you are getting to changes of five or more beats per minute the effects will start to be noticeable.

Sometimes it just happens that way. And sometimes it happens that way with working out chords as well. But either way, the more remixes (or songs of your own) that you work on and the more familiar you get with different keys and scales, the more familiar you will be with the chords that go with them. Eventually you will probably get to a point, even if you aren’t a classically trained musician, where you somehow just know what chord progressions will work with a vocal melody and you find yourself moving to the next chord in the pattern without really thinking about it too much on a conscious level.
