The ACORN data is based upon publicly available sources, but is of great commercial value in the targeting of marketing efforts such as direct-mail. The CSFs should be expressed in quantified terms (say turnover, profit, or market share at a certain date), so that they are objective measures and there will be no doubt or argument as to whether they have been achieved or not. Performance indicators (Pis) are management measures which can be used to check progress along each part of the voyage: from one CSF to the next. CSFs might be spaced a year or more apart in time; Pis check progress at the tactical level within a shorter timescale. Pis might monitor the same quantities, such as market share, as are used to define the CSFs.
