For example, one critical step in a cluster analysis involves examining a dendrogram, which forms successive clusters or groups of participants ranging from the total sample, in which case no clusters are formed, to a single cluster comprised of all cases contributing data. One such example in applied linguistics research is the relationship between strategy use and proficiency.
