There was a small solution sac indicating melting into the surrounding glass and small rounded nodules protruding slightly along the perimeter of the stone. Petrographic analysis revealed the presence of individual nodules, as shown in Figures 7(b). The characteristic shape and the high birefringence indicated that the nodules were likely zirconia. SEM analysis revealed irregularly shaped nodules, as shown in Figure 7(c). EDX showed that the nodules were composed of zirconia.
