Stanihurst imitated in his Virgin, and excellent Sir Phillip Sidney disdained not to follow in his Arcadia & elsewhere. 36 Harvey was returning the compliment paid him by Stanyhurst in the preface to the Four Books. Writing in June 1582, Stanyhurst makes a direct reference to Harvey's metrical theories in 'one of his familiar letters'.
