Dai biglietti riconsegnati, risultava che in quella ca bina avevano viaggiato l'inglese Carlo Price, Vittorio Strazzeri ed Ettore Majorana. Impossibile rintracciare il Price; ma fu facile arrivare al professor Strazzeri, docente all'Università di Palermo. Sollecitato da una lettera del fratello di Ettore (alla quale, è ovvio pensarlo, sarà stata acclusa una foto grafia) , il professor Strazzeri esprime due dubbi: di avere effettivamente viaggiato con Ettore Majorana e che « il terzo uomo» fosse un inglese.
Gli interessi filosofici, che erano sempre stati vivi in lui, si e1ano fortemente accentuati. Ma il non voler parlare di fisica appunto dimostra che non l'aveva abbandonata, e anzi che ne era ossessionato. Nessuno di noi - dice ancora Amaldi - riusci però mai a sapere se facesse ancora della ricerca in fisica teorica; penso di si, ma non ne ho alcuna prova. Lavorava molto, per un numero di ore del tutto ec cezionale. Il suo dramma - che non ci commuove affatto, a cui sol. tanto riconosciamo un valore di parabola, di lezione, di ammoni zione per gli altri uomini di scienza - è propriamente il dramma, vissuto a livello individuale, soggettivo, di un nefasto « collabora zionismo » che molte migliaia di persone hanno vissuto ( nel senso che ne sono morte) oggettivamente, in quanto ne sono stati ogget to, bersaglio. E speriamo che altre e piu vaste vendemmie di morte non vengano da questo, non ancora infranto, « collaborazionismo ».
